Custom Sharkticon Tail
There have been a lot of custom Transformers accessories coming out recently, like the coronation armor for Hasbro’s MP Starscream and the scale-model figures of Spike and Sparkplug. As cool as they are, they tend to be overpriced, the type of thing that I may buy at a Botcon (where money is drained like water) but not during any other day of the year. The new custom Sharkticon tail falls under this category.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a terribly cool idea. Sharkticon tails are notoriously difficult to come by. I searched forever to find mine. Even better, the custom tail marketing is awesome. “Does your Gnaw suffer from Short Tail Syndrome? Now your Gnaw can feel like a REAL Sharkticon! Size matters to this fembot!” You almost want to name him Bob and put oak panels behind him.

The problem is the price. At a buy-it-now price of $19.99, it’s more costly than a vintage Sharkticon tail, and that’s before the shipping price is tacked on. I’d like to see these mass-produced and sold for $9.99 at Botcon, perhaps packaged with a custom Sharkticon sticker set. I would definitely pick one up. Actually, I might pick one up at full price if I spot them at Botcon (in a moment of weakness).
The price for a custom hand made piece really isn’t that high. You have to think of the pieces needed to complete the item, the time it takes make the item, and of course the guy who does all of this trying to make an honest dollar. Asking for them in a combo pack with a repro sheet of lables for $9.99 is very far fetched since the repro lables for the Sharkticon run $10 a sheet plus shipping anyway. On top of those other 2 point my final one is that the original shark tail, although needed for completionist, was a very lame item that did not truely represent what was seen in the original Transformers movie. These custom piece do represent that and actually are running cheaper than the originals. The original tails have been fetching around $30-$36 and depending on the seller various shipping fees.
In conclusion $20+ for a tail that is movie acurate is not over priced at all.

That makes sense. I believe that a higher price is warranted if only three items were available, each made by hand. However, if more could easily be made from the same mold, and made in sufficient quantities (a hundred or two), then $10 would be a fine price. I would be willing to bet that all of them would sell too. It really is a nice piece, and a great idea!
