We Got A Dishwasher That Won’t Wash Dishes
Our dishwasher has been flaky for the past six months, but it finally crapped out on us. The door had rusted into the controls, and replacing it would be costly. It was short notice, but we knew where to buy a new one. For the last ten years, Nason’s Appliances has always given us great deals, and they throw in delivery and cart the old one away. I told Chrissy that we should have them deliver the washer, but she wanted a new one installed that night.
When I got home from work, the dishwasher had already been pulled out from under the countertop and was ready to be hauled out to the trash. This would have been fine if Nason’s had had a replacement in stock. But they didn’t, and they wouldn’t have one in stock for another week. Due to our haste, there was a huge gaping hole under the kitchen counter, we had to shut off the hot water in the kitchen sink, and we ate off of paper plates for the next week.
I blame our hardships on GE. When we first bought our home, we installed top-of-the-line GE Profile appliances in the kitchen. These were expensive and should have lasted forever. However, the microwave range broke down within two years and the dishwasher started rusting through after four years, conveniently after the warranties had expired. Even the Nason’s sales guy was surprised at how much trouble we had with our high-end items. We now hate GE.
The new Whirlpool dishwasher was delivered last night. It took another trip to Lowe’s for attachment parts to install it, but it’s working great right now. Chrissy is surprised at how well it works, mostly because the GE hasn’t done a good job for a while. We don’t ask much of our dishwasher, only that it actually washes the dishes. But I think that we’ll finish off the paper plates anyway. It’s convenient (and somehow decadent) to just throw them away after dinner…
