Concrete Is Poured And The Dust Is Settling
What started out as a little bit of concrete next to our deck became a much larger project. It took a lot longer than we had expected, because it had to be poured in three separate sections on three different days. And it rained a lot in between each section. Luckily, our contractor was able to start earlier than he planned, so the finish date was kept the same.
Even though the work is done, we still have a bit to do. There’s dirt all over everything, which we hope will eventually clear off (otherwise, I’ll be busy with the pressure washer). The driveway is a bit more torn up than before the work started because of the heavy machinery driving over it. And we need to replace some topsoil and re-seed the lawn in areas around the new concrete.
We can’t complain about the results though. It turned out very nice. Our concrete sits on a sturdy base of compacted stone and it’s sealed to prevent moisture from cracking the surface anytime soon. Water flows away from the house, away from the garage, following the pitch of the concrete down the driveway and into the street. Just like we planned!
We might want to replace the rest of the driveway now. Bill gave us an estimate to replace the remaining concrete, but we might not be able to get to it for a year or two. The driveway has a few years left in it, but Bill is set to retire at the end of this summer. He did good work for us, and we would like to have him back.
