Legos Were The Key Present This Year
Chrissy and I both loved playing with Legos when we were little. Each of us had a sizable collection. Although I have no idea what happened to my Legos, Chrissy’s mom stored hers away. When Aiden was old enough to play with them, she brought them out of storage. Aiden enjoys building things with Legos, and surprisingly, Gavin shows interest in them as well.
The boys received a couple of Lego sets for their birthdays last summer. Aiden got a police boat and Gavin got a fire boat. The boats see a lot of play time (not in the bath tub, these are not floating boats), and it’s my job to fix them when they end up in pieces. This worked out so well that Chrissy bought them some city-themed sets for Christmas. They also got some Lego sets from other relatives this year. Big sets, little sets, lots of blocks.
Lucky for us, Chrissy and I both enjoy building things. We spent several days putting all of the Lego set together. The fire station and police station took a long time, but we also had rescue trucks and ambulances to build. The boys helped: Gavin would search for parts in the pile while Aiden snapped them together according to the directions. We ended up with an entire table covered in Lego creations. It’s quite a sight.
There are more on the way. Chrissy likes to shop ahead for birthday and holiday gifts when items are on clearance. Right after Christmas, she found a bunch of Aliens and Egyptian series cut way down. So those are set aside for Easter. There are also a couple of large boxes that might wait for their birthday. I’m not sure where those will go, because the existing Lego display is taking up a lot of space. But the boys are very happy so far.
