Mooses And Muffins Live On Stage
Chrissy has been a big fan of the Laura Numeroff books for a long time. When she was still in college to become a teacher, I gave her a copy of “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” for Valentine’s Day. Since then, Numeroff has penned many similar books like “If You Give A Pig A Pancake” and “If You Give A Moose A Muffin”. Chrissy has the whole collection. The Center for Performing Arts at Governors State University hosts on-stage plays for children in their fantastic auditorium. Ticket prices are...
read moreEver Hear Of NaNoWriMo?
For the last couple of years, several of my Twitter friends have participated in National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo. Basically, it makes a goal of writing a 55,000 word novel during the month of November. I almost signed up last year since I had a neat story idea. I decided to give it a try this year. I don’t have time to actually write stuff, so I used the iPhone to dictate directly into Notes with the new voice recognition software in the keyboard. I got mixed results with this. On the one hand, I...
read moreWe Loved Puss In Boots 3D
I see the multi-generational appeal of the Shrek movies, but I especially like the Puss in Boots character. When I found out that Antonio Banderas would be lending his voice to the 3-D full length movie spin-off, I knew that we would be taking the boys to see it. I would look silly going by myself. Unlike the rest of the Shrek franchise, set in the fairytale land, this movie is set in the Old West, reminiscent of the badlands of Mexico. There are still talking animals, but it’s more like Rango than the Shrek movies. There...
read moreMy iPhone Is Now Lifeproof
The day after Chrissy got her iPhone, she went to the AT&T store and bought a new red iFrogz case for it. It has nice features, like a camera lens slider and a connector port cover, but it’s large and bulky. The silicone rubber covering makes it hard to pull in and out of your pocket and it attracts lint. I have no doubt that you could drop it down a flight of stairs without any ill effects though. I wanted a little more protection for my phone because I have a tendency to drop mine. My old Sena case was a padded leather suit...

Although I was not happy about Apple releasing the iPhone 4S instead of the iPhone 5 this year, Chrissy and I were in desperate need of new phones. Our old 3G iPhones were dog slow and would crash often. I found that a hard reboot would alleviate most of the problems, but this was not a long-term solution. Waiting another year for the iPhone 5 was likewise not a viable option. The iPhone 4S was the way to go. We had joked about camping out in line outside the Apple store on the morning before the release date, but then they announced...
read moreMoving To AT&T U-Verse
We are going to make a move to AT&T U-Verse. We have been using the Dish Network for our cable needs for the last seven years. But then Chrissy and I paid a visit to the local AT&T store to ask questions about her new iPhone. During the troubleshooting, the clerk gave us the sales pitch for AT&T U-Verse. We would be able to tie in our home phone line, high-speed Internet and television into the same bill, at a substantial discount to what we are currently paying for each individually. We already get our landline through...
read moreThere Goes My Ya-Ya
Toddlers can’t always pronounce words that they use frequently, so they go with nicknames instead. In our house, “Grandma” has always been “Ooma”, at least until they can say the right word. Aiden said “Ooma” for the longest time, and now Gavin calls her “Ooma” as well. Grandpa is “Papa”. There are some other good instances of made-up words in our house. For example, Gavin calls Aiden “Ya-Ya”. Not sure why. Aiden used to call Gavin “Bay-Yay”...
read moreHang In There… Of The Dead
It’s a proven fact that anything can be made better by tacking “of the dead” on the end of it (corollaries of this include “in bed” and “in my pants”). Maybe that’s just because I dig me some zombies? Just add walking corpses, and your favorite clichés become newer and awesomer. Take the “Hang In There!” kitten, toss in some zombies, and it’s that much better. See? Chrissy and I watched “The Walking Dead” every week during their first season. It was...
read moreAre You Sure It’s Not An iPhone 5?
I have pre-ordered the new iPhone 4S for me and Chrissy. That was a harder decision to make than I thought it would be. Because Apple is so secretive about their products, there was no telling what they would unveil on October 4th during their “Let’s Talk iPhone” event. But that didn’t stop people from speculating on the new features that the iPhone 5 would have. And that’s the problem. I bought into that, and expected an iPhone 5 that would have all the features that I wanted most in a new phone: 4G...
read moreLast Game Of Fall Ball
Fall Ball season has drawn to a close. I can’t say that I’m sorry to see it go. Aiden is happy with playing t-ball, but this wasn’t exactly t-ball. The older Rookie-level kids play an infield game while the smaller T-Ball players languish in the outfield, which highlights the difference in skill level between them. It’s disconcerting to see one kid hit like a Little Leaguer when the kid next to him can barely make contact with the ball, especially when that little kid is yours. I would have been happier to see...
